Brian T. Beasley

As an Assistant District Attorney for over 10 years, Brian saw a little of everything in the courtroom. He now puts that experience to good use as the legal advisor for the High Point Police Department. Brian publishes a legal update for his agency on a regular basis and has graciously agreed to share with us those he feels would be helpful for agencies across the state.

LEGAL EXPERIENCE:

POLICE ATTORNEY, High Point Police Department, (June 2008 to present)

Provides training and consultation with Police Department employees on legal issues. Specific duties include: ensuring departmental field procedures are in compliance with existing legal requirements; attending and providing legal counsel for criminal investigations such as high profile homicides, officer involved shootings, and in custody deaths; providing legal advice regarding the handling and disposition of evidence; publishing articles and summaries of legislative enactments and relevant court cases; developing training outlines and teaching subjects which have legal content; and providing on-the-spot legal advice to officers when the advice affects an active, on-going criminal investigation which cannot wait for research at the office. Assists Police Department line functions, and upon request, assists with major criminal investigations.
